Initially matured in refill and hogshead casks, the whisky was then finished in first-fill Sangiovese wine casks, from the Valdarno di Sopra region in Tuscany, Italy.
Finishing is the malt master’s art of taking a whisky that’s been matured for the majority of its life in one type of cask, and placing it in another cask type for a period of time to add an extra dimension of flavour. The goal is to use this cask type to complement and elevate the signature character of ABERFELDY, not mask it.
Being first-fill the casks bring intense complexity and rich, fruity notes. This whisky is non-chill filtered and has natural colour.
